These areas share concepts, approaches and mechanisms (Fig 2). For example, the molecular basis of mechanotransduction lies at the intersection of sensory systems and biophysical mechanics, while force generating systems operate at the interface of motors and scaffolds with biophysical mechanics. Further, there are a number of examples where interaction of cytoskeletal elements and particular myosin isoforms (MyoVIIa) bias the MTC to be optimally sensitive to open probability.
